Students take part in Severn Trent's water supply challenge

Students from all Management School undergraduate programmes were invited to take part in a Water Supply Business Challenge set by Severn Trent.

The ULMS Extra session took place on the 21st February and brought together students from across all management school subject areas and years. The task saw 3 groups of students work within their team to complete a timed task, which is also used as part of Severn Trent’s assessment centre for the Business Leadership Graduate Scheme. Severn Trent plc is a water company serving over 8 million customers across the UK.

The task was facilitated by Darren Page, Graduate Resourcing Manager, along with 2 employees currently enrolled on the Business Leadership Scheme. They worked with the groups to aid discussion and provide mentoring throughout the task.

The groups were asked to implement a running water system around an allocated area of land considering financial implications as well as the design, planning and testing of the system.

The interactive session worked towards developing student’s skills in clear thinking, maturity, team membership and practicing effective communications in a situation which is reflective of not only rigorous graduate assessment centres but also team working in the workplace.

Students were given the opportunity to reflect on their finished product, able to discuss what they achieved and identify areas for self-improvement.
