Managing Director and co-owner of Senate Construction Services, Kiera Vogel, delivered a guest lecture session for MBA Students at the Management School.

Kiera's lecture,"'Running' a Business" covered Kiera's journey from being a local girl with a real passion for sport to becoming a world-record athlete and now a highly successful business woman.  She spoke of her early ambitions and passion for sport, committing to her goals from a young age, striving to improve all the time.  She also spoke of the importance of her family, friends and coaches and their support as she sacrificed a 'normal' childhood to pursue her running career, including studying Health and Human Performance at Iowa State University in the USA.

Talking about her many sporting achievements, Kiera mentioned the highs and lows of winning and losing races. "Dealing with success and failure are two really important qualities", she explained.

She believes her athletic support network and running experience has helped her in her current working life, where she regularly sets herself realistic new goals and targets with the help of a very supportive network around her. Being female in the construction industry, Kiera faced a few challenges, but handled these successfully. Her talk highlighted that success cannot be achieved by one person alone and she urged students to understand the importance of teamwork.  Her closing message to the students was to stay focussed, believe in their goals, not worry about failure and work with supportive people.

Following her presentation, there was a lengthy Q&A session and networking.
