'Leaders of Tomorrow' head to Brussels

24 MSc students visited Brussels over this week as part of the Management School’s three-year ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ Programme.

Students who have achieved the highest results in their studies were invited to participate in the programme and this visit, which was arranged to help them improve their teamwork, communication, networking and leadership skills, as well as provide further industry experience.

The visit to the European Parliament included an intensive team exercise, where students role-played being Members of the European Parliament, including researching and proposing new Bills, debating their Bill in front of their peers, talking to journalists, voting, and reacting to real-time situations and challenges. This exercise is used as part of new MEP’s induction process, so they were given a real insight into what it’s like to work as an MEP.

The group was also welcomed by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), a consultative body of the European Union enabling civil society organisations from the Member States to express their views at European level. Students were given an introduction and tour, and were then taken on a tour of the nearby Audi car production plant, where they gained further industry knowledge and witnessed cutting-edge technology.

The Brussels trip follows the group’s visit to Shop Direct in April earlier this year.

Xiaobei Wu, International Employer Engagement Officer at ULMS, said “The students had a great experience and were highly appreciative of the opportunity to participate in the trip.”

Wendy Lavin, Study Abroad Officer at ULMS, said “It was great to see students utilise and develop their team work, communication and leadership skills at the European Parliament”.
