Haydock Park - a day behind the scenes of the races

Published on

Jockey Club Racecourses (JCR) opened their doors exclusively to our Thoroughbred Horseracing Industries MBA students last month, for a unique opportunity to see first-hand what is involved in the organisation and implementation of raceday events.

The day began with students hearing from members of the senior management team as they set out business goals for the day, and subsequently, discussed whether the targets had been met when racing had finished.

During the racing the students visited a number of departments, all of which play a vital role in the smooth running of a raceday, these included:

  • Racetech Media Scanner Unit
  • Vets
  • Operations (Catering & Hospitality)
  • Race Stewards
  • Starter
  • Clerk of Scales

THIMBA student Samantha Bailey said: "I thought Haydock Park was so well organised and John Baker (Regional director of Jockey Club North West) and Jason Fildes (General Manager) were amazing – I have already thanked them and will roll that day out to my teams as part of their Personal Development Plans."
