Students from MSc Big Data Management and MSc Digital Business Enterprise Management recently visited Liverpool ONE to learn about the company’s new system for footfall counting.

To support the theory of their e-Business Strategy module, students had the opportunity to visit the Liverpool ONE Management Suite to see the company’s data systems and meet with Iain Finlayson, Head of Business Performance.

Iain gave an overview of the shopping and leisure complex before discussing the innovative ways that the company tracks its footfall. Iain delivered insight into the complex data systems that monitor all aspects of their operations from security to consumer spending patterns and store trading viability.

Dr Zenon Michaelides, Director of Studies for both MSc Big Data Management and MSc Digital Business Enterprise Management, and Dr Hossein Sharifi joined the students on the visit to illustrate how theoretical concepts taught as part of the module are fundamentally important in a trading environment.

Dr Sharifi said:  “The visit was an excellent opportunity for students to learn how emerging information technologies and e-business systems are strategically employed in industry. It is useful to see how a company like Liverpool ONE manages large volumes of data for the benefit of their stakeholders in order to sustain success and growth of the business."
