Masters students visit Santander Corporate Centre

Masters students visited Santander Corporate Centre in Liverpool as part of a series of employer visits.

The trip was organised by MSc Careers Advisor, Sadie Lawty, and gave current MSc students an opportunity to tour Santander’s Liverpool offices and meet with senior members of staff.

Chris Sharkey, Head of Department at Santander, led a Q&A session where students spoke to Relationship Directors from various business sectors about how a financial organisation such as Santander operates and interacts with different businesses.

Students also met with Lynne Robertson, Incubator Manager at Santander, who gave a tour of Santander’s first Business Incubator. The Incubator is a co-working space where entrepreneurs can collaborate and build strong networks. Santander’s hub provides professional mentoring to develop new business ideas and innovation. Lynne introduced the students to business owners using Santander’s business start-up premises and explained how the Incubator nurtures new companies to grow and expand.

When explaining Santander’s role in shaping Liverpool’s business community, Lynne said: ‘Liverpool is an energetic start up city but has found it difficult in the past to retain graduate talent. Santander’s investment in new businesses enables entrepreneurs who are disrupting their industries with new and ambitious ideas to reach their full potential.’

Throughout the visit, students were encouraged to ask questions about the company’s culture and career opportunities. Trent Christie, an MSc Marketing student who attended the visit, said:  ‘I found the insight into Santander’s employment procedures and personal progression really beneficial. It was particularly useful to hear about their recruitment process from the employer perspective as well as first-hand from a graduate on their graduate scheme.’
