MBA Guest Speaker: Sir Michael Bibby, Bibby Line Group

Sir Michael Bibby, Managing Director of Bibby Line Group, delivered a guest lecture for MBA students at the Management School.

Michael Bibby took up his position in the company in 2000 and ensures that the Distribution division meets or exceeds the shareholders' strategic and financial targets while at all times living the company's values.

As part of the MBA guest speaker series held in the Brett Building, Michael spoke about “the importance of values to a family business”.

Bibby Line Group is a diverse and forward-looking family business with over 200 years’ experience of providing personal, responsive and flexible customer solutions in a range of industries from shipping to financial services. It is one of the longest established family-owned companies in the UK.

The talk explored specific company values and ethics and Michael explained how they have become embedded into the company ethos.

In terms of measuring the importance and impact of values, he spoke about how individual appraisals, employee and customer surveys, staff turnover and media activity are an indication of their success within the business.

Sir Michael Bibby shared a quote from previous owner Arthur Wilson Bibby. He said:  “Our duty is to conduct the business with every care and energy of which we are capable”.
