Professor Ansgar Richter delivered a guest lecture as part of the International Business programme.

The International Business programme runs an occasional series of public events at which guest speakers address contemporary issues in international business. The session, “In the Shadow of Volkswagen: the Hidden SMEs that are the True Backbone of the German Economy” was led by Professor Ansgar Richter, Head of Organisation and Management at the Management school.

The session focussed on the Volkswagen emissions scandal which has brought attention to the problems at one of Germany’s largest companies. However, there are also mid-sized German companies that have taken advantage of Germany’s superb institutions to become global leaders.

In this talk, Ansgar discussed his research on the “Hidden Champions” – small to medium-sized and relatively unknown companies that have world-leading market shares in their respective lines of business.
