Ernst & Young delivered a guest lecture for Accounting and Finance students.

Second year students on the BA Accounting and Finance programme attended the talk given by Jenn Hazlehurst, a partner, and Lauren Bruce, a newly qualified executive both from Ernst & Young.

The lecture gave students a practical insight into the audit profession as well as getting a view of the issues facing the industry helping to develop students' commercial understanding of the topic. Not only does this help students perform better in their Audit and Assurance module exam, it enables them to talk knowledgably on the subject at interview if they choose a career in this area.

Some of the key points discussed included how changes in legislation were affecting EY's business and how this impacts the big 4 accounting firms as well as how it affects mid-tier firms and the industry as a whole.

They also discussed how independence and ethical considerations are fundamental to their work. They talked about how the ethical regulations affect their decision making and business planning.
