New scholarships launched to support MBA students

Two new scholarships have been established to support students looking to pursue an MBA at the University

Both scholarships will provide a fully-funded free place on the University’s MBA programme which runs over one year (full-time) or two years (part-time). The programme is designed to offer high-level management and leadership development in an innovative and relevant format. Widely regarded as the gold standard in executive development, the MBA is aimed at people who want to make significant changes to their career and take on more strategic leadership roles.

The first scholarship, generously established by alumnus Dr Paul Roy (BA Hons Economics 1968, Hon LLD 2009), will support two UK students on the MBA programme. The scholarship is specifically designed for talented students who might otherwise have been deterred from applying due to their personal circumstances.

Paul, who is Founder and Chairman of asset management company NewSmith Capital Partners and Chairman of the British Horseracing Authority, will also meet the successful recipients to consider them for an internship in his own company or arrange an opportunity in a similar organisation.

The second scholarship, which will be funded through the US Scholarships and Exchanges Programme, will provide a fully-funded place on the campus-based MBA course. The programme is funded by philanthropic donations to the University’s US Foundation, University of Liverpool in America Inc. which provides a means of tax-efficient giving for US-based alumni and supporters. All donations made to support the Scholarships and Exchanges programme will also be matched from a fund established by the Directors of the Foundation at a ratio of $1 for every $3 donated.

Entry requirements for the MBA programme include a 2.1 or equivalent and three years of relevant work experience at an appropriate level. The scholarship holders will commence their studies in October 2012.
