What did you study at A-level and why did you select those subjects?
Physics, Maths, English Literature and French. I chose a diverse mix to keep my options open, and Physics, as I had an inkling I would enjoy engineering.

What degree did you study?
Mechanical Engineering (MEng)

What inspired you to choose and study your degree subject?
Working in Tanzania during my gap year, I realised how important technology, energy and infrastructure are to quality of life.

What key skills did you learn at university?
Teamwork, working to a deadline, and becoming proficient in a topic quickly!

What jobs have you had during your career?
In my professional career, I've had only one, but before that, I had several jobs in hospitality.

What is your current job and what do you enjoy about it?
I am currently a Global Graduate at Scottish Power Renewables. I enjoy being able to work in a different team of my choice every six months, to maximise the things I can learn from work.

Do you have an area of expertise?
Yes, offshore wind.

What has been your most exciting project or career role?
It's yet to happen – a six-month international placement in Melbourne, Australia, working on the development of one of the country's first offshore wind farms.

What are your top tips for working in your industry/sector?
Networking! The IMechE, Energy Institute and the Young Energy Professionals network all offer so many free events where you can learn about new areas and meet people.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
My mum always says, "You don't ask, you don't get," which has served me well so far.

Why are you passionate about your career?
I am passionate about the ability renewable energy has to mitigate the climate crisis, and I feel lucky to be able to contribute to that through my work.
