Professor Prudence Wong
Can you tell us about your role and any research you are involved with?
Currently, I am a Professor of Computer Science and Head of Algorithms and Computing Systems in the new School of Computer Science and Informatics at the University of Liverpool. I received my PhD from The University of Hong Kong and hold an honorary Professorship at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan.
I serve as Chair of the EPSRC ICT Strategy Advisory Team, having been a member since 2020. Previously, I chaired the London Mathematical Society Computer Science Committee from 2017 to 2023.
My research focuses on the design and analysis of algorithms, particularly in developing efficient solutions to computational problems with provable guarantees in terms of optimality, time and space complexity. A key area of my work involves energy efficient algorithms both for general computation and optimising energy cost in electricity grid demand response management. This research lies at the intersection of computer science and mathematics, especially combinatorial optimisation.
I enjoy tackling challenging mathematical problems and have also published in interdisciplinary areas such as computational biology.
