Who will own my data once I submit it?
Your data will be owned and managed by Liverpool Women in Science and Engineering (LivWiSE), which is part of the University of Liverpool.

Why do you need my information?
We collect your full name, email address, job title and department so we can:

  • Register you as a member of the LivWiSE society.
  • Keep you informed about our activities, including newsletters, events, and opportunities relevant to women in science and engineering.
  • Engage with our community effectively.

Your information will only be used for these purposes and will not be used for any unrelated activities.

What allows you to use my information?
We rely on your consent to collect and use your personal information for the purposes outlined above. Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful basis for processing this data is:

  • Consent – You have given us clear permission to use your data for communications and membership purposes.

Who will my information be shared with?
Your information will only be accessed by the organisers of LivWiSE, operating under the University of Liverpool. It will not be shared with any external organisations or third parties without your explicit consent.

Do I have to provide this information and what will happen if I don’t?
You are not legally required to provide this information. However, if you choose not to provide your details, we will be unable to:

  • Register you as a LivWiSE member.
  • Send you updates about our events, news, or opportunities.

If at any time you wish to opt out of receiving communications or withdraw from membership, you can do so by contacting livwise@liverpool.ac.uk

How long will you keep this data for and why?
We will retain your data indefinitely to maintain an accurate membership record and continue communicating with you unless you request to be removed. You can opt out at any time by emailing livwise@liverpool.ac.uk

How will my information be stored?
Your data will be stored in a password-protected Excel spreadsheet on a secure University of Liverpool drive, accessible only to LivWiSE organisers.

Will this information be used to take automated decisions about me?
No. Your data will not be used for any automated decision-making or profiling.

Will my data be transferred abroad and why?
No. Your data will not be transferred abroad.

What rights do I have when it comes to my data?
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation, you may have the following rights with regards to your personal data:

  • The Right to subject access – you have the right to see a copy of the personal data that the University holds about you and find out what it is used for.
  • The Right to rectification – you have the right to ask the University to correct or remove any inaccurate data that we hold about you.
  • The Right to erasure (right to be forgotten) you have the right to ask the University to remove data that we hold about you.
  • The Right to restriction – you have the right to ask for your information to be restricted (locked down) on University systems.
  • The Right to data portability – you have the right to ask for your data to be transferred back to you or to a new provider at your request.
  • The Right to object – you have the right to ask the University to stop using your personal data or to stop sending you marketing information, or complain about how your data is used.
  • The Right to prevent automated decision making – you have the right to ask the University to stop using your data to make automated decisions about you or to stop profiling your behaviour (where applicable).
