Head of School, School of Life Sciences Cellular and Molecular Physiology

Personal Statement

As Head of the School of Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool I am responsible for all undergraduate teaching and taught masters programmes delivered by the School. I have extensive experience in curriculum design, implementation and evaluation having developed a range of undergraduate provision throughout my career. I am committed to providing Liverpool students with the very highest quality educational opportunities available, from their first contact with the University, through their chosen programme of study, and onward to their future employment.

Outside the University I am currently Chair of the Education & Outreach Committee of the Physiological Society and am a member of the Physiological Society Council and Executive Committee. This is an important national educational role that provides me with the opportunity to, 1) raise the profile of Physiology as a Life Sciences discipline, 2) impact on government education strategy at secondary and tertiary level, and 3) maintain the pressure to reward and recognise good physiology teaching in HE in line with Liverpool’s promotion strategy.

Prior to taking up my role in March 2015, I was a Head of the Department of Cell Physiology & Pharmacology at the University of Leicester for nine years.
