Who will own my data once I submit it?

Why do you need my information?  

The My Liverpool mobile app uses information provided by you that is held in the University’s Record System. The app allows users to do the following: 

  • Browse events and add selected events to your Favourites 
  • Navigate campus using maps 
  • Manage your library experience – the app houses your library card and lending history 
  • Absence management functions 
  • View Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and contact lists 
  • See your scheduled lectures and where the lectures will be held 
  • See contact details for staff members scheduled to deliver lectures 
  • Record attendance at sessions using a generated attendance code (students only) 
  • Generate attendance codes for students attending your sessions (staff only) 
  • View University term dates 
  • View your Digital ID 
  • Give feedback on the app to help inform future updates 

What allows you to use my information? 

The majority of functions within the app are delivered as part of your contract with the University including timetabling information, term dates, absence management, library functions and the provision of FAQs. Campus navigation is a function that must be enabled by the user and is operated with the user’s consent. To find out more information on how the University processes data, please visit the Legal webpage.  

Who will my information be shared with?  

Your information will only be accessible to staff at the University of Liverpool who need to see it in order to complete their work. 

Do I have to provide this information and what will happen if I don’t?  

Use of the My Liverpool app is not mandatory but is advised. Within the app, the use of GPS functionality is not mandatory but is available to all users. No ongoing GPS data is stored through the app. 

How long will you keep this data for and why?  

The information held in your record is retained securely for seven years after your graduation or leave date. This is specified in the University’s Record Retention Schedule. Information is held according to the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) for reasons such as verification of qualifications, auditing and accountability, data analysis, legal and ethical obligations and alumni relations. 

How will my information be stored?  

Information is stored on secure University servers. 

Will this information be used to take automated decisions about me?  

No.  

Will my data be transferred abroad and why?  

No. 

What rights do I have when it comes to my data?  

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation, you may have the following rights with regards to your personal data:  

  • The Right to subject access – you have the right to see a copy of the personal data that the University holds about you and find out what it is used for. 
  • The Right to rectification – you have the right to ask the University to correct or remove any inaccurate data that we hold about you. 
  • The Right to erasure (right to be forgotten) you have the right to ask the University to remove data that we hold about you.  
  • The Right to restriction – you have the right to ask for your information to be restricted (locked down) on University systems. 
  • The Right to data portability – you have the right to ask for your data to be transferred back to you or to a new provider at your request.  
  • The Right to object – you have the right to ask the University to stop using your personal data or to stop sending you marketing information, or complain about how your data is used. 
  • The Right to prevent automated decision making – you have the right to ask the University to stop using your data to make automated decisions about you or to stop profiling your behaviour (where applicable).
