with Alessia Mangiavillano (Coventry University) and Kathy Burrell (University of Liverpool, Geography).

The event will discuss graphic journalism and the representation of humanitarian crisis through two recent Italian graphic reportages on refugees' experience in the Mediterranean, Salvezza [Rescue} and ….a casa nostra: cronache da Riace, [...at home: a chronicle from Riace], both by Lelio Bonaccorso and Marco Rizzo. Both comics will be introduced by Alessia Mangiavillano, a former NGO practitioner whose doctoral research focuses on the role of comics in refugees and migrants advocacy. Dr Kathy Burrel, Reader in Human Geography at Liverpool will join for a Q&A on comics and the representation of refugees stories.

The event is hosted by Dr Barbara Spadaro and the students of the module Comics and Graphic Novels: Memory and Transcultural Mobility as part of the XX Settimana della Lingua italiana nel mondo - 20th Week of Italian in the World, dedicated to L'italiano tra parola e immagine graffiti, illustrazioni, fumetti [Italian between words and images: graffiti, illustrations, comics].
