The first-seaters at Clifford Chance started their training in early 2020. Just weeks into the job the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything about our world. Instead of going into an office they were starting their career as a fully remote team.

In this session, members of the Clifford Chance trainee program will share their journey entering the legal sector and how they are thriving in this new virtual world we’re living in.

You’ll hear the stories of trainees who joined the firm in the weeks leading up to the lockdown. They’ll share practical tips that apply to any remote-first workplace such as setting boundaries, adapting to new contexts, building in sociable encounters, balancing proactive and reactive approaches, and much more.

This session will be interactive. You’ll hear about the journeys that led the panellists to Clifford Chance and how they’ve navigated the fully remote world of work. Then, attendees will be put into breakout rooms and be given the chance to ask the panellists questions in smaller groups.

Speaking at This Event

Eleanor Hervey-Bathurst, Trainee Solicitor
I am a first seat trainee in private mergers and acquisitions. Before joining Clifford Chance I studied theology at the University of Edinburgh. I applied directly for the training contract, without ever having completed an official vacation scheme, had an interview which I felt I ruined on numerous levels, and have now. been at CC for 3 months. Since lockdown, I have discovered an excellent new recipe for scones and blueberry muffins which I would be happy to share.
Jamal Khan, Trainee Solicitor
I chose Clifford Chance because I knew that alongside working on high-
ticketed international deals, the culture and diversity that the firm encourages is something that I was on board with straight away. In these strange COVID times, I have found the adjustment interesting and I have become a lot more aware of the importance of a healthy mind.
Kelvin Anim, Trainee Solicitor
I studied History and War Studies at King's College London. My main hobby during my time at King's was debating which took me around the world. I arrived at corporate law because I enjoyed the commercial insights I gleaned from stints at the Financial Times and Grey London Advertising but wanted a career that I could apply my analytical, research and public-speaking skills to (hello CC).
Walter Myer, Trainee Solicitor
I studied law at the University of Edinburgh and am originally from South Wales. I'm currently a first seater in the SABRE team here at CC. As a bit of a hermit I am actually enjoying the lockdown.
