Hosted by the University of Liverpool's Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, The Liverpool Annual Film Lecture 2019 ‘Mexican Multiplatform Media: Cinema, Television, Streaming’ will be given by Prof. Paul Julian Smith (Graduate Center, City University of New York).

Professor Smith is an internationally recognized critic in Hispanic cultural studies. He is the author of twenty books, most recently Queer Mexico: Cinema and Television since 2000 (Wayne State Press) and Television Drama in Spain and Latin America (IMLR). Elected a fellow of the British Academy in 2008, his interests are wide-ranging and interdisciplinary.

Prior to the lecture there will be a panel of papers on new research in Hispanic Screen Studies. The speakers include Prof. Nuria Triana Toribio (University of Kent at Canterbury and author of Spanish Screen Cultures), Dr Rebecca Jarman (University of Leeds) and Dr Abigail Loxham (University of Liverpool).

This event will also launch the Film Section of the MLO and provide an introduction to the Bigas Luna Tribute at HOME in Manchester. More information is available here: https://bigaslunatribute.wordpress.com/

The event is organised in conjunction with the Regional Research Network in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Cinemas.
