We are delighted to present the first ACE Flagship Seminar of 2019 – in which we welcome Ian Hodder (Stanford University). Professor Hodder is Director of the Çatalhöyük Research Project – building our understanding of one of the world’s first agricultural communities. Having spearheaded critical thinking in our readings of the past, his most recent research discusses how human entanglement with material things draws us down certain evolutionary and historical pathways. This latest concern is the subject of the present seminar, building on his seminal 2012 monograph Entangled: An Archaeology of the Relationships between Humans and Things. The ACE Flagship Seminar is open to undergrads, postgrads, post-docs and staff, and aims at friendly cross-disciplinary discussion, in a relaxed setting. A reception in the Victoria Gallery and Museum will follow the event.
