Liverpool Philharmonic Oboe Quintet

The Liverpool Philharmonic Oboe Quintet comprises five current members of the RLPO: Jonathan Small - oboe, Mihkel Kerem and Andrew Harvey - violin, Gwendolyn Cawdron - viola and Alexander Holladay - cello.

Our programme presents three works, including the UK premiere of Michael Small's Jali, a two-part work evoking patterns of light and shade inspired by middle-eastern wood carving. We revisit Ian Stephens' Quintet, commissioned by the Rodewald Concert Society, written in memory of two Liverpool oboists, David Dutch and Monica Nurnberg, and premiered by Jonathan Small with the Brodsky Quartet in 2014; and finally the Quintet by Sir Arthur Bliss, a masterpiece premiered by Leon Goossens in Venice in 1927.

Michael Small and Ian Stephens will be present to introduce their compositions.
