We are delighted to be welcoming Executive Director of Washington Ireland Program (WIP), Mr Bryan Patten, who will be discussing the excellent $15,000 scholarship opportunity offered by WIP to students with a commitment to the development of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The University of Liverpool is WIP’s only non-Irish University partner.
WIP is a twelve month program of personal and professional development, a highlight of which will be eight weeks in the United States, including a one week orientation in Washington, a one week summit in New York City, and six weeks in either Washington or New York. During this time students gain invaluable practical experience by completing internships in either US government, media, business or non-profit organisations. This will be the first year when students will be placed in New York, as well as Washington.
The Program’s purpose is to develop the skills and networks of future leaders for Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and it welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. On completion of the Program, students join an active Alumni community, who are involved in academia, business, media and politics. Indeed, the current Taoiseach of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, is a WIP Alumnus, having been part of the WIP Class of 2000 (http://wiprogram.org/leo-varadkar-taoiseach/).
Please note online applications are open now on http://wiprogram.org, which also contains more information about the Washington Ireland Program. WIP is open for applications from students who consider Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland to be their home, are aged 18+ and studying full-time at British or Irish Universities. The closing date for applications is Friday 1 December 2017 at 11:59 pm UTC.
Mr Bryan Patten will be visiting the Institute of Irish Studies on Wednesday 22 November from 1.00pm until 2.30pm in Seminar Room 4, Management School (Chatham Street) to give students a unique insight into the program.
If you wish to learn more about the program and the profile of candidates who are successful, please come along and join us on Wednesday 22 November.
Please confirm your attendance by 12 noon Monday 20 November 2017 by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
