Abstract:
My group’s research seeks to obtain a mechanistic understanding of how the transcription of bacterial genes is regulated. In particular, we are interested in stress response genes, and their regulation via specialised ATPases which remodel complexes between RNA polymerase and its cognate promoters to promote the DNA melting step at the beginning of transcription. Several of the systems we study have lent themselves to circuit design in synthetic biology settings, and to elaborating approaches to capture entire gene regulons in response to non-native input signals.
