The Music of Jane Austen: “The Piano Forte often talks of you”

Music is woven through the very fabric of Jane Austen’s novels. Both as background flavour and main-plot action, her characters play instruments and sing, attend concerts and clubs, and even dance in the parlour! Duo Celestus – Janet Forbes and Dorien Schouten – present a lively programme of music and readings exploring the importance of music within Austen’s novels, as well as the wider culture of domestic music in 18th century England.
