You are kindly invited to this event that will explore the link between the Brexit referendum and the ongoing refugee and migration crisis. Pawel Swidlicki will examine why the intensification of the refugee and migration crisis last summer has coincided with a fall in support for Remain, and discuss whether these concerns are justified. Pawel will also look at the wider picture within the EU and discuss what these developments mean for democracy and cultural/social cohesion within the EU. Pawel will discuss in particular the rise in support for populist parties, including in Austria, leading to the resignation of the Chancellor, and the announcement of the referendum in Hungary on the EU’s refugee relocation scheme.
