A University of Liverpool Free Event in Celebration of International Women’s Day

Please join us at our screening of the 1943 biographical film ‘Madame Curie’ starring Greer Garson, with an introduction from the University of Liverpool’s Dr Claire Jones who will talk about Marie Curie and set the context for women in science during that period.

Dr Jones is a lecturer and Academic Organiser for History and Philosophy Continuing Education (Centre for Lifelong Learning); a lecturer for the University's Go Higher programme and Honorary Fellow in the Department of History.

Dr Jones' research interests include the intersections of science, society and culture in Britain in the 19th Century and early 20th centuries, specifically with reference to understandings of gender, both femininity and masculinity, and ideas of ‘gathering intellect’.

The event will start at 5.45pm, with wine and nibbles in the foyer from 5.15pm.
