Currently, her work focuses on the US Christian Right and the construction of social values as a political strategy. This research includes elite interviews with political leaders and commentators, participant observation in over a dozen 'grassroots' gatherings and discourse analysis of mass emails.
What do the seemingly ‘lesbian and gay friendly’ policy changes in Western Europe tell us about narratives about ‘our’ politics? What can we learn from such European success stories? How does this help us understand the LGBT struggles in the increasingly partisan atmosphere of American political culture? This lecture locates LGBT politics within the wider frame of religious investment in welfare and the state’s need for austerity.
Other publications include Situating Intersectionality (2013), Below the Belt: Sexuality Religion and the American South (2000), A Simple Matter of Justice (1995) and Activating Theory (1993). She is an experienced political commentator appearing on BBC Breakfast Show, BBC World Service, BBC One News, The Big Question, CBBC Newsround and various BBC Radio programmes.http://www.manchester.ac.uk/research/angelia.r.wilson/
