The Department of Geography runs weekly lunchtime seminars involving external speakers showcasing new and exciting developments in research in the fields of Geography and Planning. All staff and students are invited to attend.
This week’s speaker is Dr Gavin Brown from the University of Leicester. Dr Brown’s research lies at the heart of cultural, historical and political geographies, particularly surrounding activism and protest movements. Dr Brown will explore these themes in his seminar, drawing on examples from 1980s London with regards to British anti-apartheid solidarity movements. Rather than simply telling the story of such movements, the presentation will examine short- and long-term impacts on the lives of protestors, and how they influenced interactions with friends and family.
