This week's talks:
Secrets of the Diving Mammals
Dr Michael Berenbrink
There are local mammals who have adapted to live a semi-aquatic and aquatic lifestyle, from water shrews (occurring on the Wirral), beavers and otters (River Gowy and Hatchmere Nature Reserve, respectively, Chesire) to seals (e.g. on West Hoyle Bank off Hilbre Island) to porpoises, dolphins and whales (e.g. also in the Dee Estuary). No wetsuit? No problem! These creatures have specific adaptations that allow them to dive underwater for a living - let's talk about it.
Growing Up Fast - Tracking your Pets' Growth
Dr Georgiana Woods
The growing phase is so important to get right to make sure kittens and puppies are given the best chance of a healthy life. The session will discuss growth charts which anyone can use that can confirm if a puppy or kitten are growing properly. The tool can also be used to spot problems before they happen so steps can be taken to avoid them!
