The University of Liverpool Veterinary Alumni Association (ULVAA) are delighted to invite all Veterinary graduates to the 2023 Vet Alumni Ball, which will be taking place at Liverpool Town Hall on Saturday 4 March 2023 at 5.30pm. The event will comprise the 2023 Barrie Edwards Memorial Lecture and refreshments, followed by a dinner dance. If you are organising a veterinary reunion or have an anniversary year coming up, this is a brilliant opportunity to incorporate your event with wider veterinary alumni activity.

This event will cost £75pp, inclusive of a welcome drink, three-course meal and half a bottle of wine.

Day Schedule

5.30pm: Arrival

6pm: Barrie Edwards Memorial Lecture
This year's lecture, 'Through A Vet’s Eyes: How We Can All Choose a Better Life for Animals', will be delivered by Liverpool alumnus Dr Sean Wensley FRCVS (BVSc 2003). The lecture is held annually in memory of alumnus and Emeritus Professor Barrie Edwards CBE BVSc DVetMed FRCVS who passed away in 2011.

Sean chairs the Animal Welfare Working Group of the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) and is a Senior Vet at the UK veterinary charity, the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA). He was President of the British Veterinary Association (BVA) from 2015 – 2016, a founding Director of Vet Sustain and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Sean has contributed to animal welfare and conservation projects around the world and in 2017 he received the inaugural World Veterinary Association (WVA) Global Animal Welfare Award for Europe.

During the lecture, he will speak about his passion for wildlife, developed during his childhood growing up on the Sefton coast, and his 20 years working in animal welfare – covering animal welfare science, policy, practice, advocacy, One Health, sustainability and the drawing of all these themes together in his recently published book: Through A Vet’s Eyes: How We Can All Choose a Better Life for Animals, which was selected as one of the Financial Times’ Best Summer Books of 2022.

7pm: Pre-dinner drinks reception

7:30pm: Celebration dinner, followed by music and dancing

12am: Carriages
