The University of Liverpool, Liverpool City Council (Gardens) and St Michaels Councillors have teamed up to organise a Volunteer Community Clean Up Day at the Liverpool Festival Gardens.

Originally created for the International Garden Festival (1984) and later part of Pleasure Island attraction, Liverpool Festival Gardens re-opened in 2012 as Liverpool's newest public park. Featuring the Chinese and Japanese gardens, Moon Wall, Children's Play area, Forest Walk and waterways, the park is in need of some tender loving care.

What will we be doing on the day?

Depending on how many people sign up, are main focus will be to:

Litter Pick
Clean away any rubbish, branches or other debris along paths and communal seating areas
Clear away weeds and overgrowth along pathways, walls and gates etc
Paint/Stain the wood work of the main gates, seating areas, fences and Japanese garden
Clear away weeds and overgrowth along the stair and woodland walk
The event will require some level of physical activity, but we wont be going all "garden rescue" and doing any heavy brush clearage or replanting, that may be something to look at in the future.

You will be able to do what ever best suits your level of fitness, but please do come open to helping out where needed.

Logistics

Equipment will be provided on the day, but if you have a favourite pair of gardening gloves or knee pads, feel free to bring them along.

We will be aiming to run the day from 10am till 4pm, although that doesn't mean you need to stay all day, just let us know when signing up how long you think you will ne able to commit to the day.

University of Liverpool Staff

All members of staff of the University can use 3 paid work days a year for volunteering and this community clean up day provides a great opportunity to get out of the office or home office, meet new people, socialise and get some (hopefully) sunshine.

Register by completing the eventbrite booking form, but please ensure you request the volunteer day in CORE, log in to CORE / My Time / Book Leave and select Volunteer. Volunteer Days like all leave is subject to line manager approval and the needs of the business.

Why not come as a team instead?

University of Liverpool Students

Students are more than welcome to sign up and attend as well by registering on the eventbrite
