Universities aim to create inclusive environments where people are free from discrimination on the grounds of their personal characteristics such as gender, ethnicity and social class, yet research has shown that students and staff often experience discrimination at university because of their accent, which is often associated with these same personal characteristics. This interactive workshop is aimed at students and staff and aims to explore our understandings and attitudes towards accent and share ideas on how we can overcome accent discrimination at university. We will explore questions such as:

• How do people feel about their accent?
• What does accent discrimination look like?
• How can we tackle accent discrimination at university?

Free refreshments (tea/coffee and pastries)
