Information for referring vets during the COVID-19 pandemic

On behalf of the Equine Hospital, Leahurst we want to express our sincere gratitude for the support you, our referring vets, have given us over the years.

We recognise that in these uncertain and challenging times that many equine practices are facing their own particular pressures, so we wanted to let you know that we want to do all we can to support you.

We are now beginning to increase the number of cases we see as we move towards the "new normal". If you have cases for routine referrals, please call reception as you usually would and they will perform a risk assessment of the case.

* We will still have members of the admin team available to take telephone calls every day including weekends and Bank holidays between the following hours: 8am-4pm Mon- Fri, 8am-3pm weekends and Bank holidays. The answering service will take calls outside those times.

* We are still very happy to provide telemedicine advice calls to you for cases you may want advice over, e.g. “what do you think of this sarcoid?” “How would you manage this wound?” etc. Please just call us.

* We recognise that many of you will be undertaking extra shifts to compensate for colleagues who may be self-isolating or have been put on furlough, so we are happy to accept emergency referrals where you may not have done as complete a work-up as you normally would have done. We only ask that you take reasonable steps to ensure any such cases are fit-to-travel.

If there is any other way you think we can help, please just get in touch. We hope that you all, and all of your loved ones stay safe and well.
