Your Future stand

Careers and Employability ran a whole week of different careers events in March for the Your Future Festival. Jack Thorpe looks back at all of the events that took place during the week.

On the Monday and Tuesday, we had members of the Careers team operating pop-up stalls around the University. I had the pleasure of running these stalls and enjoying the company of Jen Foden-James, Chell (Michelle) da Silva Willis, Samantha Riella and Amal Abdulkadir. We were able to talk to students and tell them all about the Your Future Festival events.

On the Tuesday evening, I was so happy and proud to attend the Graduate Careers Lounge planned, organised and hosted by our very own Emma Ward. This was an absolutely amazing event getting our graduates back onto campus and enjoying a panel talk from some superb graduates including Aine Crossan, Josh Dally, Paris Omar, Shubh Kantharia and Jen Kehlenbeck. We also had the pleasure of listening to the graduate band Birdhouse, photography from graduate Alex Walker and sweet treats courtesy of entrepreneur Anthony Polanowski with Decent Donuts (make sure to check them all out if you are in need of music, pictures or desserts)

So onto Wednesday and it was the Spring Careers Fair. This event had over 650 attendees (an amazing turn-out) and I was really happy to see all of the interested students and graduates looking for work at the University of Liverpool and preparing for their future. A big shout-out to our employer connections team who managed to get so many great employers to join us on campus.

Thursday would probably have to be my favourite day but it didn't actually start until the evening. I had the amazing opportunity to host my own Masterclass on how to network on LinkedIn and go Beyond your Profile (how meta 🀣). I had 45 attendees to my masterclass which was amazing with some really engaging questions and a few people completing my LinkedIn post challenge and utilising my tips and tricks. I couldn't have ran this session as smoothly without my co-host Meghan Williams who was manning the waiting room and collecting questions to ask me at the end so a big thank you from me.

And then to finish it all off, our LinkedIn Lounge returned on Friday having been organised by the fab Samantha Riella and assisted by Olga Chatzidaki. A little less chaotic than our last one and how could I not resist getting a quick picture myself πŸ˜‚

And there we have it, this post may have now become the length of the dictionary but I hope you have read all the way to this point and can see all the incredible work that is going on in within Careers (not even mentioning the international CV workshops or Speed Interviews). So, a big shout-out to everyone who helped to make this week possible and thank you to everyone who attended.
