Student in London

After graduating from the University of Liverpool in 2020, I began working as a Parliamentary Researcher in the House of Commons.

My role is hugely varied, with no two days being the same. One minute I can be writing a speech which will appear in the chamber, the next I’m campaigning for an upcoming election, the next I’m meeting with politicians to discuss important policy issues.

I found the opportunity online, on a website called work4MP.com. However, having previously completed the Parliamentary Placement Scheme through the Politics Department I was equipped with the knowledge on how to create an effective application for the position.

The University of Liverpool’s Careers studio was so helpful when I was trying to find a graduate job. The Careers service encouraged me to take part in the Parliamentary Placement Scheme in my third year of University which was fundamental in securing my graduate job.

My top tip is to get your CV and Cover Letter checked by one of the Career Coaches. Often, employers will only see your CV and Cover Letter before deciding to interview you – you want to make the best first impression!
