I Got Hired: Nuclear Graduates Programme.

Gowritharan Sivalingam is a Class of 2022 Chemistry with Research in Industry MChem graduate now working on the Nuclear Graduates programme.

I applied to the Nuclear Graduates scheme via the Gradcracker website while doing my Masters.

Initially, I was rejected by the sponsor company in the assessment centre during my first semester. However, after graduation, I was approached by a different sponsor for another role in the summer.

In the Nuclear Graduates programme, there are many opportunities to attend conferences and training courses. My favourite time was attending a nuclear decommissioning conference in Vienna.

There is a lot of travel involved in the graduate scheme, but it is rewarding to see and experience new places.

My advice to current students and recent graduates:

Apply: Regardless of your experience or the final result in the assessment centres, you need to accept rejections and failures are part of the journey. So, apply to jobs and experiences which you find interesting.

Being proactive. Other than your degree, what else do you bring to the table?

Use your values to find a career you want. As a graduate, I would question what career I wanted to pursue after graduating. When discussing this with my lab mentor, he gave me a simple exercise. Write down all my values. Then find a career that aligns to those values.
