I Got Hired: Marketing Intern at Newcastle Cathedral

Posted on: 21 June 2023 by Samantha Riella in Graduate stories

Georgina Clarkson is a BA History with English Lit graduate who worked as a Marketing Intern at Newcastle Cathedral.

How did you get to where you are now?

I took a chance on the internship - I had no experience with marketing but it combined skills from my degree with my love of heritage.

What has been your best experience as part of your role?

Coordinating press visits to the Cathedral to showcase all that it has to offer - this may be up our iconic lantern tower, to report on an interesting monument, or most recently as a place of remembrance and reflection during the period of national mourning.

What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey?

Adapting to a workplace with a wide variety of people - some of whom I may not necessarily get along with.

What are your top tips for other students and graduates?

  • Persevere with what you're truly interested in.
  • Take the pressure off - you don't have to have your whole life figured out when you graduate.
  • Be openminded to job and career opportunities.
