Shelby Shaw is a Bachelor of Laws graduate now working as a File Handler at Keoghs LLP Solicitors.

How did you get to where you are now?

I left sixth form and competed a level 4 CiLEX legal apprenticeship. I worked in the legal field for 2 years while attending university one day a week. After obtaining this I knew I wanted to qualify as a solicitor so I applied to the University of Liverpool to complete my law degree. After completing my degree my old supervisor reached out to see how I was doing and I ended up joining him at a different firm in the role I am now in.

What has been your best experience as part of your role?

Gaining real legal experience and handling my own litigated case load.

What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey?

The most challenging part was going back into the working world! Working a 9-5 job both in the office and from home was a big change.

What are your top tips for other students and graduates?

  • Make connections while at University! It’s never too soon to have your foot in the door of a firm
  • Ensure you have a good balance between studying and looking after yourself and your mental health
  • Enjoy yourself! Make the most of your years at university because they’re over within the blink of an eye.
