I Got Hired: Junior Data and Research Analyst

Aimee Lashko-Sayers is a class of 2021 Biochemistry graduate, who is now working at PatSnap UK Ltd as a Junior Data and Research Analyst.

How did you find out about the role?

So I originally worked in the Sales Development Team in PatSnap for about a year, however knew it was time to try something new, this was an internal role that popped up and it seemed right to apply for it! It was also super useful that I had made connections within the company, so when I had my interview with the new team, I had worked on a project with one of them already and the other I knew from seeing them in the office.

How did you get to where you are now?

I graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Biochemistry in 2021. I loved my degree, however I knew that I did not want to go into scientific research. So when it came around to looking for jobs, but also not really having a direction, my main motivation was to get in front of people. I applied for countless roles which I felt myself and my degree would be useful for and just applied! This process meant I had an interview everyday for 2 weeks - jumping right into the deep-end. However when I had interviewed for PatSnap for my previous role at the company (Sales Development Representative), something felt right about it. Even though it was in an industry I had no knowledge of - Intellectual Property - I was excited to be curious again and learn something new. A year into the role I felt I needed a fresh start but I loved the company and the people in it. I was lucky enough to work with my, now, manager on an International Women's Day talk for the company and also get to know one of my new colleagues previously through going into the office. When I saw the position going for Junior Data and Research Analyst, I was super excited to apply as it was still within the company and industry, however it has enabled me to use those skills I had learnt throughout my scientific career to produce analytical market reports - and now here I am!

What has been your best experience as part of your role?

My favourite part, I have to say, is being able to research around different industries and dig deep to where they are going and how knowing this information could influence companies in their business decisions. Being able to have that freedom to write about trends and relate them to what is going on in the market is super interesting to me.

What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey?

I think the hardest part is knowing that you are probably going to throw yourself into something where you have no idea where it's going to take you. Also adjusting to the working lifestyle - no more lie ins on a Wednesday morning!

What is your top tip for other students and graduates?

Not everyone goes at the same pace, so do not panic if your mates are all in jobs/post grads before you. It will all happen at the right time for you.
