Tom Westhead is a class of 2021 English Literature graduate, now working as a Junior Bid Writer at Capita.

How did you get to where you are now?

Applied for a few different roles and prepared for competency-based interview and informal conversation-style interview.

What has been your best experience as part of your role?

Working with the team to develop new approaches and strategies for bids. Supporting team with new resources and clear coordination.

What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey?

Getting to grips with the new industry I'm working in. Enforcement has a big procurement drive and there's lots to learn before you can get to grips with compiling bids.

What is your top tip for other students and graduates?

If you have a language degree, the value of your written communication cannot be understated when applying for jobs. This can get you into many fields if you pair it with some knowledge of industry or business qualification.
