I Got Hired: Junior Account Executive

Izzy Oleniuk is a Class of 2022 English Literature graduate, now working as a Junior Account Executive at Village Design and Creative Marketing.

After graduation I travelled and worked in Canada and South East Asia for a year. I got arrived home in September 2023 and 2 weeks later landed a job at a design and marketing agency working as a junior account executive!

I knew I wanted to do something creative, but wasn't sure in what specific industry. I saw a recruiter advertise the job on LinkedIn and decided to apply.

Working for Village has increased my interest in marketing and branding and made me feel less stressed and unsure of what the future has to hold. It was quite challenging to come home to the UK after a year of travelling abroad. It was a very sudden change in lifestyle, from relaxing on beaches one day to suddenly having to prep for interviews and facing rejections from companies.

I’d advise students to do some sort of extracurricular activity or side hustle while at University. Even if it isn't related to career or education, employers like when you have an interesting passion or drive - for example, I started a travel blog!

Don't mass apply to every and any job. Make sure you only apply to things that interest you and companies that align with your values. You don't want to be working somewhere you hate!

Embrace this era of your life. I struggled with closing the chapter on my uni lifestyle when starting full time work, but now I have embraced this part of my life and really got stuck in with trying to learn and progress my career, I have found it very fulfilling!
