Oliver Rammell is a Class of 2022 Criminology with Law graduate, now working as an Intelligence Analyst at NetWatch Global.

I found my current role through actively searching for opportunities in intelligence and investigations. I was able to find the job on indeed through its ’Jobs For You’ page which takes previous applications across job type and location and advertises close matches tailored to you.

After graduating I decided to take a year out wherein I worked for 6 months at a supermarket in order to go travelling for 4 months in Southeast Asia. Once home I began searching and applying for roles in Intelligence and Investigation mostly within the public sector. It was always the area of employment I was interested in and fortunately after research into the private sector I was able to find NetWatch Global who use OSINT and particularly social media activity in order to investigate people and incidents. I started here just over a year after graduating

Carrying out private investigations on people and incidents is as fun as it sounds. Everyday is different and it’s exciting to be able to use new technology and AI in order to streamline what we do

I think the most challenging part of life after graduation is keeping positive and focused. It can be difficult seeing people jump straight into an ideal career following graduation but it’s important to keep persevering and not put too much pressure on yourself to land your dream job straight away. For me it was useful having a year unrelated to your career to really think about what you want to do and what path you’d get the most enjoyment out of.

My top 3 Tips for current students and recent graduates:

  1. Don't worry about landing a graduate job straight away, there’s plenty of time and so many avenues you can take in order to have a successful career.
  2. Don’t be disheartened by failed applications, experiencing interviews and assessment days will only help you further and become more comfortable in the future, regardless of the result.
  3. Smaller companies often offer the same benefits and qualifications as bigger established brands. They also give you an opportunity to really feel like a meaningful asset within your work so it’s important keep your scope broad in that sense.
