Jonathon Jackson is a Town and Regional Planning (MPlan) graduate from 2021, currently on the Aspire graduate programme in the Land Department at Barratt Developments.

What is your current role?

I currently work for Barratt Developments PLC as a Land Buyer. This involves me sourcing new opportunities in the North West land market, creating housing mixes and assessing the viability of housing developments on different parcels of land.

How did you find out about this role?

I found the role through a graduate job opportunity emailed to me from my head of department.

The recruitment process was hard and time consuming, with tests, a virtual presentation and interview as well as a final interview with my department director.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I have been with Barratts for 1 year now. I am currently the deputy project manager for the company’s charity fundraising campaign which has been a great experience so far however it has been a challenge to balance this with my day to day job responsibilities.

What advice would you give to students currently looking for graduate opportunities?

First, make sure you apply to many different kinds of job roles or graduate schemes, you never know what you might get!

In interviews, make sure you come prepared with a good knowledge of the organisation and the wider industry – commercial awareness is really important.

Finally, remember companies like to hire people so don’t be afraid to let your personality out.
