Charlotte McCarthy graduated with a BA Hons Business Management degree in 2020 and is now working as a Digital Media & Marketing Intern at Stone Marine Shipcare.

Can you describe your current role?

Stone Marine Shipcare are a well-established marine engineering company specialising in the repair & maintenance of propulsion equipment – the company are based in Birkenhead but operate globally.

The Digital Media and Marketing internship is focussed on developing the company’s digital presence on social media - planning and creating content for Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook and Instagram, as well as updating the website.

How did you find out about the internship?

I found the role on Handshake after I graduated, and used the Careers & Employability team to secure the position to help gain some valuable marketing experience for my CV. I received guidance on how to present my personality and achievements on my CV which proved successful as I secured the job on the same day as my interview! The Careers service was really helpful in giving tips and tricks to highlight my strengths and experience to suit the role specifications.

Which aspects of your course do you think have been the most beneficial to your career development?

My course was a great way for me to understand what aspect of business I wanted to go into when I graduated, with my Business Management course including a range of modules such as marketing, economics, people management and supply chain operations.

I found that the marketing and entrepreneurship modules were most beneficial to my career development as I realised this was something I was passionate about. All of the modules from my course have helped improve my employability skills and enhanced my confidence.

What is the first thing that you think of when you think of the University of Liverpool?

The support and resources I received which has led to many exciting opportunities, and of course the lifelong friends I have made along the way!

What was your best experience while studying your course at the University of Liverpool?

The best experience I had whilst studying my Business Management course was being able to meet lots of people with similar interests as myself. Working and learning from others has definitely improved my employability skills and the friendships I have made during my time at University will be something I treasure forever.

Do you have any top tips to share with future and current students?

My top tips would be to enjoy every minute at Uni as it goes by so fast! I loved studying at the University of Liverpool and meeting lots of people from around the world. Make sure to talk to your lecturers and tutors when you need help, even if it is a little daunting at first! Also, join societies, especially in first year as it's such a good way to make friends!
