Sarah Potter is a BA Communications & Media with Pop Music graduate now working as a Learning and Development Digital Content Creator at Greggs.

How did you get to where you are now?

I joined Greggs six months post-graduation as a Customer Care Advisor and progressed within that role for six months until I felt like it was a company I wished to continue my career with as the company's ethos is in line with my own. Therefore, I began to look for scope of progression in my career preferably using my skills learnt during my time with the University of Liverpool and stumbled across my current role on the hiring email circulated around the office.

What has been your best experience as part of your role?

The fact I get to help others progress and feel confident in their own careers through the content I create. The fact I am able to use my creative skills and the scope to constantly learn is a close second.

What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey?

I applied to probably hundreds of entry level roles over the course of six months before gaining my initial job at Greggs. The competition post-Covid was intense and there was a lot of specifications I felt I didn't meet.

What are your top tips for other students and graduates?

1. Don't doubt yourself and be determined, you are able of achieving what you want even if things don't go as planned initially.

2. Do your research of the typical skills needed for each role you apply for and make sure to brush up on your knowledge of the sector and business you're applying to.

3. Everyone progresses at their own pace and it's completely normal to hit bumps in the road. If you really love your bar job for example, don't feel pressured into moving on until you're ready.
