Georgina Bulga is a BA English Language graduate now working as a Associate Editorial Assistant at 2 The Nth Limited.

How did you get to where you are now?

After completing my undergraduate degree in English Language, I went on to do an MA degree in Publishing at Manchester Metropolitan University; since my 2nd year of studies, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in the Publishing industry, and before looking for jobs in that area, I wanted to gain as much knowledge as possible about the different areas of work within publishing, such as: Editorial, Book Design and Production, Sales and Marketing etc.  Towards the end of my Masters, I began to apply for as many Editorial related jobs as possible; I had numerous interviews and rejections from other companies before being accepted for the role of Associate Editorial Assistant at 2 The Nth Limited; a Manchester-based medical communications company that work with clients on a global scale.

What has been your best experience as part of your role?

One of my favourite parts about my new role is that no day is the same! Being an Editorial Assistant means that I am involved in various areas of the journal publication process, such as working with the authors on style sheets, manuscript styling, and dummy submissions. As well as this, everyone in the team is really lovely and helpful, and there are regular company socials and opportunities to attend conferences abroad.

What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey?

The most challenging part of my graduate journey was the process of applying for jobs and attending interviews, this was alongside completing the final project for my MA as well as working part-time alongside this.

What are your top tips for other students and graduates?

1. Celebrate the little wins and remember how hard you've worked to get here!

2. Network with other people in the industry you want to work in, LinkedIn is fab for this.

3. Try and gain as much work experience as possible, if you're a current student the Career Studio is great for finding relevant work experience!
