The University of Liverpool Careers Fair returned to campus this term with a bang. In this article, we summarise some of highlights of this year’s event.

On Tuesday 18th October we welcomed over 80 employers back onto campus for the LivUni Careers Fair as part of a revamped core employability experience for our students designed to boost their career confidence, help them explore opportunities, build their professional networks and be inspired.

Held in the Crypt of the Metropolitan Cathedral, this impressive and iconic venue hosted a huge range of graduate employers who were keen to attract talent from the University of Liverpool into a variety of roles including summer internships, year in industry placements and high-skilled graduate level positions for 2023. We were overwhelmed with employer interest in returning to campus to connect with our students as part of their talent attraction campaigns.

Following a high-profile campaign across campus and online, over 3000 students attended.  At the same version of this event last autumn term which was online, only 605 students engaged which demonstrates the importance of face to face and human interaction when it comes to making connections.

All of the employer representatives made a positive impact on our students’ perceptions and understanding of the range of potential career journeys available to them. Through advice, tips and signposting, our students were delighted with the information and support they received and valued the opportunity to spend a day building their professional networks

Across the day, our students also had the opportunity to attend a series of industry insight panels successfully hosted by our Career Consultants. For each of the panels, we invited speakers to share their own career journey representing sectors including Law, Healthcare as well as Sustainable Careers. Each panellist also shared their top tops on how to enter their industry and students were given the chance to ask questions.  Student engagement at these sessions was impressive, with standing room only at some sessions, highlighting the appetite from students to engage in these kind of opportunities to connect with industry.

Another highlight of the event was the catering!  We were proud to support Homebaked Bakery – a local charity and not for profit community-based organisation run by volunteers - which enabled us to introduce exhibitors to one of our most well known local delicacy, scouse, our famous Liverpool stew!

The return of the Careers Fair has provided an unmissable on-campus employability event for our students which is crucial to enhancing the student experience.

Thank you to all employers who attended and helped us make the return of our Careers Fair such a hit!

We have so many more things planned as part of our exciting programme of employer engagement events. We can’t wait to have you back for 2023!
