Student Mental Health - Staff Training

Information and guidance for staff who are interested in training around Student Mental Health

The Mental Health Advisory Service (MHAS) delivers face-to-face training to University of Liverpool staff. Typically, courses aim to develop mental health awareness and the skills to respond effectively to student needs, but we can develop bespoke training on request. Courses are relevant for staff who encounter students regularly in either academic or support roles.

If you identify a need for staff training in your department, please contact mhas@liverpool.ac.uk.

The range of mental health-related courses offered currently by MHAS include:

Mental Health First Aid training

This MHFA-accredited 2-day course helps staff spot when students might be experiencing mental health issues. You will learn how to offer initial help and guide students towards support. It teaches you to listen and respond in a way that is appropriate for your role.

Mental Health Awareness

This half-day, introductory course will help you gain an understanding of what mental health is along with some common mental health issues. The aim is to give you the confidence to offer support to students in distress whilst recognising the boundaries of your role.
