University Hardship Fund

We know that many students and their families have experienced financial difficulty as a result of the pandemic. In recognition of these additional pressures faced by many of our students, the University has allocated an additional £1million to its Hardship Fund. All students who are experiencing genuine and unforeseen financial difficulty whilst at university, despite having applied for and received all other financial support, are invited to apply for support from the fund.

The fund can provide non-repayable grants towards general living expenses or for one-off exceptional costs. Applications are assessed on a case by case basis using the University Hardship Fund Guidance. Please note we are currently updating this guidance in light of the increased funds available. If you are unsure whether you qualify for the fund please make an application and we will respond as soon as we can. Tuition Fees cannot be included as expenditure under any circumstances.

Closing dates:

Undergraduates – 7 May 2021

Postgraduates – 28 May 2021

Students are advised to apply to the fund as soon as possible and not wait until they have run out of money.  Applications can take up to 20 working days to process and this period may be extended if not all evidence is submitted at the time of application.

We have a very limited capacity to make emergency payments. If you are a UK student and have run out of money please contact money@liverpool.ac.uk, and if you are an overseas student and you have run out of money please contact iagteam@liverpool.ac.uk, however please be aware that we are unlikely to be able to make payments before Christmas.
