Rocio first completed a research placement with SAVSNET back in January 2018 and we are delighted to have her back, this time for a year!

'I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Animal Health Department in the Veterinary School of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). I graduated in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zaragoza in 2010. Soon after, I started a Master´s degree in “Research in Veterinary Science” in the Veterinary School of the UCM, which I completed in 2011. Since then, I have been working on projects about epidemiology, diagnosis and control of parasitic and vector-borne diseases in small animals. I finished my PhD studies in March of 2021; my doctorate studies were focused on canine babesiosis, a severe tick-borne disease that is globally widespread. Currently, I am a member of the research team called “EPICONTROL-Carnivores” and a resident of the European Veterinary Parasitology College (EVPC).

I’ve received a fellowship from my University to do a research stay in the Institute of Infection and Global Health in the Veterinary School at the University of Liverpool. Here, working with the SAVSNET team, I am conducting an epidemiological research project aiming to update the status of some parasitic zoonoses in dogs and cats through electronic health records.

Furthermore, this incredible opportunity allows me to meet many researchers and to have scientific exchanges with them. I am happy about this experience!'
