About

Mathew Flynn is a lecturer in music industry. Prior to joining the Music department, he taught music business at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). Before moving into higher education, Mat was a self-employed practitioner in the music industries, owning rehearsal rooms and an independent record label. He has been a member of Liverpool City Region Music Board since its formation in January 2019. His current research interests include decision-making in the music industries, the impact of the pandemic of Liverpool's music sector, the experiences of Black music makers and practitioners and how to better educate musicians about copyright and data use and management.

I currently supervise PhD candidates on topics including copyright and artificial intelligence and am keen to work with people interested in areas related to the music industries such as decision-making, digitisation, music cities and spaces, artist management, and identity.
